The Christian marriage service is a service of worship before God, normally conducted within the house of God.
We
are happy to offer our facilities for members of the church or for
persons in the community. Our sanctuary makes a beautiful setting for
your wedding. It seats 200 on the main floor, and an additional 50 can
be seated in the choir balcony.
The church will open 2 hours
before the start of the wedding. Flowers for the ceremony may be
dropped off at that time. A room is available for use as a bride’s
dressing room. The bride’s family is responsible for removing all of
the bride’s belongings immediately following the wedding.
Music
Music
is an important part of your wedding day. It should be respectful and
in keeping with your church ceremony. The church organist has a large
selection of songs that can be used during your wedding. Special music
can also be used with pre-approval. Soloists are also available.
Flowers and Candelabra
The communion table and other meaningful symbols of the church may not be removed from the sanctuary and may not be decorated.
It
is the responsibility of the wedding party to provide the floral
decorations. Candelabra, candles, pew bows, and flower stands are
available from the church. If the church’s flower containers are used,
they may not be taken from the church.
Decorations should be
simple. No tacks, nails, pins or scotch tape may be used to fasten
decorations to the woodwork, furniture, chancel or pews. Masking tape
is permitted.
Photography
Photographs requiring flash or additional lighting are not to
be taken during the service. In some cases and in some places in the
church you may use flash during the ceremony, consult the pastor for
more information. Pictures may be taken following the service.
Videotaping during the service is only allowed from the choir balcony
or other approved points. Additional light for the video camera is not permitted.
Wedding Dates and Rehearsals
For
weddings in the sanctuary, applications should be made well in advance
of the date desired for the wedding. A deposit of $150 is required to
hold your wedding date. Arrangements should be made at the church
office for consultation with the church wedding hostess and the
pastor. Also at that time, the rehearsal date and time of service
should be arranged to avoid conflict with other church activities. The
bride and groom should see that their parents and ALL members of the
wedding party attend the rehearsal.
The Minister
Pre-marital
counseling with a pastor is a prerequisite to marriage in the church.
The pastor should be notified of your decision to be married at least
two months before the wedding day. The pastor recognizes that
occasionally situations may warrant an exception to the notification
prerequisite, and he will listen openly in such cases.
It is
the pastor’s prerogative to reserve a decision to officiate at your
wedding until there has been sufficient opportunity to get to know you
and counsel with you. It shall be left to the pastor’s judgment to
decide the number of counseling sessions.
